Stunning Mandarin Ducks spotted in new Liverpool location

These two stunning Mandarin Ducks have proved a popular sight after being spotted in the waters of a dockside Liverpool residential complex.

This photo shows the pair basking within the City Quay development on the historic Herculaneum Dock, just south of the city centre.

The colourful ducks, which were introduced to the UK from the Far East, are said to have been spotted there repeatedly in the last few days.

Mandarin Ducks have been seen in south Liverpool before, delighting passers-by in Sefton Park.

Despite attracting plenty of attention wherever they have been spotted the species is actually quite shy, according to the Wildlife Trust.

Describing her pleasure at seeing the ducks at City Quay, Audrey McCurley said: "We stood and watched the majestic creatures with its dazzling plumage.

"They were unbelievably gorgeous and had a striking beak that sets them apart from your average mallard... The ducks have been spotted on the lake for the last couple of mornings and it makes you feel like a child again just looking at them.

"I hope everyone in their lifetime gets to see a Mandarin Duck - they are such an uplifting sight."
