Stunning 'lost' Alasdair Gray mural could be hidden under wallpaper of Glasgow flat

The owners of a flat in Glasgow could be sitting on an as-yet-undiscovered treasure in the form of a 'lost' Alasdair Gray artwork hidden under their living room wallpaper.

The mural was painted by the late Riddrie-born writer and artist - described as the 'father figure' of Glasgow literature - in the living room of a flat at 16 Botanic Crescent in the west end of the city back in the late 1960s.

And it's possible that it was covered up by other occupants of the flat, who never realised the the significance of the work, in the years following and as yet remains hidden.

The incredible story was revealed by a woman who lived in the flat as a child as she bids to make the present owners of the flat aware of the mural.

Christina Macaulay took to Facebook to write: "When the renowned Scottish artist and writer, Alasdair Gray was strapped for cash, my parents asked him to do a mural in our living room in Glasgow. This is me in front of it, probably 1966 or 1967.

"The photographer was the amazing Oscar Marzarolli. I wish I had sat still for him! I often wonder if this mural still exists under some wallpaper of magnolia paint. Top flat 16 Botanic Cresc. Can't remember if right of left. I think left. We moved when I was four."

The post is accompanied by photos of Christina as a child sitting on a chair, with Alasdair Gray's large mural on the living wall behind - which depicts a number of trees and their branches and roots and what looks like a flowing river also.
