A photographer has captured an electrifying purple storm that that brings to the mind the classic Prince hit 'Purple Rain'.

Annette Kelly, 59, captured her best lightning photographs yet when spending time in Indented Head in Victoria, Australia, earlier this month.

The retiree had just wrapped up a three-day trip around her home state of Victoria in the hopes of capturing an incredible lightning storm, but had no luck.

The amateur photographer had all but given up when she landed in Indented Head to visit friends and came across the electrifying purple sight.

Annette said: “The clouds really started to build over the bay and I started to get excited for the possibility of storms so had the camera ready.

“It wasn’t until around 10.30 pm that we noticed some flashes of lightning, so off I went down to the beach with my friend Sue and my camera in hand.

“Once I started firing off the shots, I realised that this storm was special.

“The clouds, the colour, frequency of the lightning and no rain made for the perfect storm in my book for taking photos.

"There was very little thunder, it was a very serene experience without any fear that the storm was in any way dangerous to us being out there in the elements.

“I had probably spent an hour or so down by the beach when the storm decided to head too far away. Even my friend Sue who is not a photographer was just as excited.

“We were both doing the high five and happy dance when we got the shot.

“Capturing the Milky Way and lightning storms are my favourite, there is a real buzz when you know you have caught that special shot.

“These are by far my best photos of any lightning shots taken before now.”
