Stunning house set in grounds of historic Broxburn castle goes on market for less than £300,000

A stunning three bedroom house set in the grounds of an historic West Lothian castle has gone on the market.

And marketed at offers over £290,000 it's not much more expensive than your average Edinburgh property – even though it's just a couple of miles away from parts of the city.

The home is located in the grounds of Illieston Castle in Broxburn, which according to Savills is thought to date back to the late 15th or early 16th century.

It once "served as the Royal hunting seat of the kings of Scotland – most notably James II and James IV.

These days it serves as a four bedroom house – and was actually sold for not far off £1 million earlier this summer.

Now, a property located just a stone's throw away, in the same very grounds, has gone up for sale for less than a third of that price.

The detached house is being marketed by Alba Property and they say it offers "peaceful, uninterrupted views out over the surrounding countryside", describing it as a "rare find".

It comes with a unique open-plan living, dining and kitchen space along with a raised balcony, master bedroom, two additional double bedrooms, jacuzzi spa bath, single garage and some cracking communal grounds.
