'Stunning' former rectory transformed into modern £1m home

A former Merseyside rectory which is believed to date back to 1880 has gone on the market for almost £1m.

The property sits between Church Road and Highcroft Avenue, near St Andrew's Church, in Bebington, on the Wirral.

Given its history, the house has a long list of period features including high ceilings, architraves, picture rails, stained-glass windows, original quarry tiles and open fireplaces. The current owners have also made important upgrades, with a new boiler and roof in recent years.

The striking home has a mock Tudor frontage which adds to is grand appearance. Accommodation spans more than 5,700 sq ft across four floors, including a cellar, and the house sits on 1.15 acres of land.

This area even boasts two kitchens; one is house in the rectory's former meeting room.

The first floor comprises five bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a further room currently being used as an office.

In its Zoopla listing, estate agent Fisher German called the arts & crafts former rectory "simply stunning". It is on the market for offers over £950,000.

They added that the property is "an imposing and prominent country house" that was built in the 1880s "specifically as a rectory for the incumbent clergy and completed to an exemplary standard".

Overall, properties in Bebington fetched an average of £213,561 in the last year. The figure is 8% higher than the previous 12 months and 16% up on the 2020 peak of £183,659.
