Stunning footage shows starling murmuration dive through Irish coastal caves 'like they're playing a game'

A birdwatcher captured stunning footage of a murmuration flying through Atlantic coastal caves 'like they're playing a game' on Sunday night.

The beautiful gathering of starlings at sunset was captured in Ballybunion, Co Kerry, and shows the birds dive into a natural hole on the cliff edge.

The nine daughter's hole can be accessed beneath by a cave and starlings can be seen regularly dancing in and out during the summer time.

Grainne Toomey, who captured the unique footage, said: "It's Ballybunion Cliff Walk. You can see where they swoop down into.

The murmuration appeared above the nine sister's hole in Kerry (Grainne Toomey)

"That's the nine daughter's hole. They then fly out through a cave underneath, and fly around and through again.

"It's like they're playing a game."

Toomey, who runs the Ballybunion By The Sea tourism page, said the birds gathered on roofs and telephone wires in the area for around 20 minutes before beginning to murmurate around 8:00pm.

Murmuration happens when large groups of starlings gather together creating spectacular patterns in the sky.
