Stunning drone light show celebrates Thai King's coronation

Hundreds of drones took part in a display to celebrate the coronationceremony for Thailand’s new King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The drones formed various shapes in the air, including a picture of the king, a map of Thailand, and the words “Long Live the King”.

The display also included the Thai number ‘10’, referring to the sovereign as the 10th king of the Chakri dynasty.

The show took place as the three-day coronation ceremony reached its conclusion.

The formal coronation gave Vajiralongkorn full regal powers as the rightful successor of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died in 2016.

Thailand has had a constitutional monarchy since 1932, following a revolution that ended absolute rule, but the country’s monarchs are still regarded as almost divine.

The royal family is protected by one of the world’s strictest ‘lese majeste’ laws, according to which criticism is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
