Stunning Belfast Met student heading to Las Vegas after being crowned Miss Universe Ireland

A stunning Belfast Met student is heading for Las Vegas after being crowned Miss Universe Ireland this weekend.

Joanne Cooper, 21, walked away with the coveted crown on Friday night after going head-to-head with 21 other beautiful contestants.

The Derry-born beauty queen, who is a broadcast journalism student at Belfast Met, went into the competition as the wildcard after submitting her photo via instagram.

On Friday night she wowed the judges in Cork and was crowned Miss Universe Ireland.

She will jet off to Las Vegas for the Miss Universe Finals, were she will compete with home-country winners from around world.

At the grand American final on December 20, she will be hoping to be named Miss Universe at the end of the pageant which will be aired live to the county on FOX TV.

Joanna went through three rounds - cocktail dress, bikini, and evening wear - before the girls were whittled down to the final 10. Joanna was then selected for the final three before going on to win.

Head judge Rozanna Purcell said: "We were looking for the perfect beauty queen to go to Las Vega and represent Ireland.

"Joanne fills those shoes."
