Stunning Andy Robertson picture captures emotional moment Liverpool star completed journey to the top

You can almost see the man himself wincing at the notion that this is all a big fairytale, plucked from the pages of fantasy and played out in real life.

The truth is, as Andy Robertson will tell you, his incredible rise is a gritty a tale of blood, sweat and tears.

Yes, the sheer scale of his ascent from Queens Park to the pinnacle of club football is nothing short of staggering, but more impressive still is the work he's put in to get there.

Robertson becoming the first Scot in 22 years to play a winning part in the Champions League Final was no accident.

Darren Fletcher, despite lifting the trophy, was an unused sub in Manchester United's 2008 success, before being suspended as they lost to Barcelona in 2009.

And as the final whistle blew at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night, confirming Liverpool as champions of Europe for the sixth time, the emotion hit for the man from Maryhill.

An emotional image captures the Scotland captain dropping to his knees, embraced by team-mate James Milner as a sea of red before them erupts with euphoria while Tottenham's beaten stars are crestfallen.

Wild celebrations followed and the image of Robertson holding the famous trophy aloft will go down in Scottish football folklore.

The match itself was far from a classic, won by Mo Salah's second minute penalty and a late clincher from Divock Origi.

The success is Liverpool's maiden trophy under Jurgen Klopp and the first silverware of Robertson's career.

This medal may just take pride of place over the Scottish Cup runners-up token he was handed in 2014.
