Stunning aerial photographs show ferry at Ferguson Marine yard reach key milestone

AERIAL photographs of one of the boats under construction at the troubled Ferguson Marine yard have been released.

The voyage of MV Glen Sannox from Ferguson's shipyard in Port Glasgow for dry dock work at Dales Marine in Greenock capture the ferry making a key milestone journey.

The vessel was hauled by tug boats on a 40-minute crossing to Dales on Sunday where 'finishing touches' on her propulsion system will be carried out, the Greenock Telegraph reports.

Photographs released by Ferguson's show the 335ft long ship on her journey downriver and entering her dry docking berth at Dales, where she will also receive a fresh coat of paint.

Ferguson's chief executive David Tydeman said: "Our next major milestone is the testing of main engines and generators before October, which will bring the ship to life."

MV Glen Sannox is scheduled to be delivered between March and May 2023, almost six years after she was 'launched' by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

The two boats are now more than four years late and are two and a half times over budget.

A committee of MSPs is investigating what went wrong in awarding the contract and building the boats.
