Stunning £48m X Factor mansion where Cheryl made TV comeback to be demolished

The stunning X Factor mansion where Cheryl made her TV comeback after the birth of her son Bear is set to be demolished.

The huge house on the French Riviera is worth a whopping £48 million, but it has to be knocked down in the next 18 months because it was built illegally.

Chateau Diter is a beautiful Tuscan-style property nestled between Monaco and Cannes in the South of France.

It's the place where Cheryl made her epic return to television after months out of the spotlight.

Cheryl was rarely seen after she welcomed son Bear, now two, with ex Liam Payne.

She joined Simon Cowell for judges' houses as she returned to the ITV singing contest, where she used to be a judge herself.

She helped Simon pick which of his acts he should take to the live shows, cementing the luxury mansion's place in TV history.

X Factor isn't the only show the house has appeared on though, it was also used as a filming location for Sky Atlantic show Riviera, which stars Julia Stiles.

But it will all be gone in 18 months' time.

The courts have ordered it be torn down because the owner, Patrick Diter, didn't get planning permission before it was constructed.

The mansion is situated in a protected wooded area, a court of appeal has ruled.

The demolition order marks the end of a 14-year legal battle that was launched by the owner's neighbours, British millionaires Stephen and Caroline Butt.

It's said that the couple, who are both hedge fund managers in London, were upset when Mr Diter started hosting parties for the rich and famous.

Mrs Butt told the Telegraph she was "delighted" with the ruling and that she hoped it would end Mr Diter's "construction frenzy".

Both she and her husband, who are reportedly worth up to half a billion pounds, were each awarded £15,000 in damages.

Mr Diter now has 18 months to demolish his luxury estate, which he often rented out for weddings and TV and movie filming for more than £40,000 per day.

Mr Diter has been fined £350,000, and if his property is not demolished in 18 months, he will face fines of up to £500 a day, according to reports in the French media.
