Stunned Emmerdale fans predict Ofcom complaints to Bernice's saucy pre-watershed comment

Emmerdale fans were left stunned by Bernice Blackstock’s suggestive comment on Thursday evening on the Dales, as she recounted her night of passion with the late harpist.

The scenes came hot on the heels of the village B&B grand reopening, as Bernice and Bob Hope tried to cover up the dead body of harpist Tim, only for him to be very much alive and well.

Bernice panicked after sleeping with the musician and then believed he was dead, with herself and Bob fearing disaster for their grand opening – only for Tim to appear and explain that he took a sleeping pill and overslept.

In scenes on Thursday evening, Bernice was revealing all from her night with the harpist, as she told Bob’s other half Wendy an innuendo about the harpist's 'wonderful fingering'.

She said: "Wendy, you should have seen him. Wonderful fingering," leaving Wendy momentarily speechless.

The comments left Emmerdale viewers blushing, as they were surprised they had aired before the watershed at 9pm.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Should that be mentioned Bernice. Before the nine o’clock watershed …” as another echoed: “No wonder Bernice liked the harpist - "wonderful fingering" - ahem!”

A third added: “Excuse me it's before the watershed speaking about fingering.”

“Did I hear that right?” another questioned as a fellow Emmerdale viewer wrote: “She didn't just say that.”

Another fan predicted the comments could even provoke Ofcom complaints, as one tweeted: “Watch now when the fingering comment gets a load of complaints.”

It comes after fans were left less than impressed that harpist Tim turned out to be alive, after soap spoilers teased a shock death amid the B&B grand reopening.

The amusing plot didn't impress some viewers, with one person saying on Twitter: "Why the hell was that ‘dead harpist’ story included? Totally pointless."

Another jokingly wrote: "That's a waste of 15 minutes of ma life!

"Am gonna have to go kill the Harpist maself(for the coppers in real life this is a joke) bloody annoying now."

However, some saw the funny side, describing the scenes as "hilarious."

Another likened it to John Cleese's sitcom Fawlty Towers, about a hapless and frustrated hotel manager, saying: "This is turning very Basil Fawlty and Fawlty Towers tonight, with trying to hide what they believe is the “dead” body of the harpist. More Emmerdale scenes Producers featuring Bob and Bernice please."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
