'Stun gun type weapon' uncovered during investigation into INLA

A man has been arrested after a 'stun gun type weapon' was uncovered as part of an investigation into the INLA.

The PSNI Paramilitary Crime Task Force searched a property in West Belfast today after Border Force intercepted a parcel.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon.

He remains in custody at Musgrave Station where he is assisting officers with their enquiries.

It was part of an investigation into ongoing criminality linked to the INLA.

Detective Inspector Hamilton said: “A search of a house was conducted in West Belfast after a parcel containing a stun gun type weapon was intercepted by Border Force.

"As a result of the search, the man was arrested and a number of items were seized, which have now be taken for further examination.

“We continue to target the criminal activities of the INLA and all those involved in paramilitary activity and I would ask anyone with any information in relation to criminal activity to contact police on 101 or alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
