Stumpy' the ancient Lemur celebrates 34th birthday with cake at Scots zoo

A Lemur celebrated his 34th birthday at deserted Scots zoo by tucking into a special cake.

Stumpy defied the odds as he celebrated the milestone birthday as the ring tailed species usually only live till around 25.

The Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder pampered the animal with gifts and treats to mark the occasion despite the zoo being empty.

It comes as the coronavirus pandemic forced the facility to shutdown making visits impossible.

The adorable zoo creature made the most out his day with enjoying his daily dose of medicine in his favourite treat, a banana.

Despite suffering from arthritis the Lemur is doing incredibly well for his age.

The Five Sisters Zoo said: "Happy Birthday Stumpy!

"Today was a special day here at the zoo as we celebrated Stumpy’s 34th birthday.

"He enjoyed his lemur friendly birthday cake and presents from his keepers.

"At 34 years of age he is amazing and apart from a little arthritis, for which he gets a daily dose of medicine in his favourite treat - banana, he is still really active and is a favourite with everyone."
