Study names Bristol as the best city for business tourism

New research has named Bristol as the “best city in the UK for business trips”. The study ranked British cities based on multiple factors including hotel costs, restaurant costs, internet speeds, taxi fares and proximity to an airport.

It was conducted by point of sale provider Dojo , which listed the top fifteen locations for business travel. Based on eight measures, the firm gave Bristol a score of 68.8 out of 100 – a full 5.7 above second place Wolverhampton.

Bradford and Belfast came in joint third place with a score of 60, followed by Birmingham and Sheffield with 58.1 each – London was way down in thirteenth place, with a score of just 46.3.

The full list of criteria is the cost of a three-course meal, average download speeds, average hotel costs, average hotel ratings, closest airport ratings, average taxi fares, reported crime rates and number of hotdesk spaces available.

Bristol did well on most measures including a high average internet speed of 95 Mbps and low crime rate of 40.8. Bristol Airport scored 7.4 out of 10, while the city’s hotels gained an average rating of 8.2.

But dining was found to be relatively expensive, with a three-course meal costing £52.50 on average. Taxi fares are also fairly pricey, at £9.25 for a journey of just 5km.

The Covid pandemic saw business travel decline by 61% while still adding £382 billion to the UK economy. With intercity meetings, presentations and pitches on the rise again, the benefit to Bristol’s economy looks set to rise.
