Studs, duds from Chargers’ 13-10 loss to the Lions

The Chargers went on the road for the first time this season and fell to the Lions, 13-10.

Here are the studs and duds from Los Angeles’ disappointing loss:

Stud — WR Keenan Allen

Allen was shadowed by Darius Slay, who’s one the league’s top cornerbacks, but he still managed to be dominant. He amassed eight receptions for 98 yards.

Dud — P Ty Long

Long was solid last weekend, but that wasn’t the case for the second consecutive time when filling in for an injured Michael Badgley. He missed both field goals, which would’ve ended up being enough for a Chargers victory. Nonetheless, Long still came in clutch filling in for Badgley when they could’ve easily filled his void with bringing in another kicker.

Stud — RB Austin Ekeler

Ekeler continued his dominance for the second consecutive week. Ekeler finished with 67 yards receiving and 66 yards rushing and a touchdown, which marks his second straight game with 100-plus yards from scrimmage.

Dud — CB Brandon Facyson

Facyson had some decent moments, but the bad ones overpowered him in his second start. He was tasked with covering Kenny Golladay for the majority of the afternoon, and he allowed a good amount of his eight reception, 117-yard and one touchdown stat line.

Stud — CB Casey Hayward

Opposite of Facyson was Hayward, who was the best defensive back today. He made some solid plays in coverage, limiting wide receivers to minimal gain. Hayward also came up with a big interception, displaying great concentration skills to bring in it as he was going to the ground.

Dud — Referees

This is a very rare occasion, but it’s necessary in this particular week. The Chargers scored two touchdowns, and they were both called back on questionable penalties. Many were puzzled with the calls, but they ultimately led to turnovers, which could’ve been the difference between a win and a loss.

Stud — WR Mike Williams

Williams dealt with a nagging knee issue all week, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell that it was bothering him from the plays he made. Williams finished with three catches for 83 yards, including a monster grab along the sideline right before the end of the half.
