Studs and duds in Titans’ 27-23 victory over Bucs

The Tennessee Titans are now a two-game win streak, recording a 27-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5) on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.

It wasn’t the prettiest of wins for the Titans, and came down to the final minutes of action.

Here’s a look at which players stood out most, and others who had some plays they probably would like to do over.

Stud: CB Logan Ryan

Ryan lost an interception early in the game, but snatched a pass from quarterback Jameis Winston at the 25-yard line with 18 seconds to go in the game to put the win on ice for the Titans.

He was a leader on defense, ending the game with eight tackles, one sack and one interception.

Dud: CB LeShaun Sims

It wasn’t Sims’ best days overall, but his worst play came when he lost Bucs receiver Mike Evans in the end zone for a touchdown. Defensive coordinator Dean Pees said earlier in the season that giving up one big play a game seemed to be a major issue for the Titans, and mistakes like these are exactly what the team can’t allow.

Stud: LB Harold Landry

Landry came up with one of the most crucial plays of the game, forcing a fumble from Jameis Winston and collecting a sack on the same play in the fourth quarter to give the Titans momentum toward the end of the contest.

Dud: Mike Vrabel’s fourth quarter play call

Vrabel has made some baffling play calls this season, but the decision to fake a field goal in such a close game at the bottom of the fourth quarter may have been one of his worst ever. It’s a wonder punter Brett Kern made it out of the play uninjured, and he was short of the first down, allowing the Bucs to take over.

The decision could have cost the Titans one of their most reliable players, and increased their chances of coming out with a loss rather than evening out their record.

Stud: TE Jonnu Smith

Smith needed to step up in place of injured tight end Delanie Walker, and did just that on Sunday. He was a large factor in the win, developing chemistry with quarterback Ryan Tannehill to put points on the board. Smith reeled in six receptions for 78 yards and touchdown to finish out as the team’s leading receiver.
