Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 16 loss vs. Eagles

The New York Giants had their Christmas celebration spoiled by the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles, with an assist from NFL officials, walked away with a much-needed 33-25 victory, holding the Giants at bay as time expired.

With the loss, the Giants fall to 5-10 on the season and are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Here is a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the Week 16 defeat.

STUD: RB Saquon Barkley

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Running back Saquon Barkley averaged just 3.5 yards per carry on Monday but that was more a product of poor run blocking than anything else. Despite that, Barkley still managed to convert on several key fourth-down plays and muscle his way into the end zone for an early score. He finished the game with 84 total yards.

DUD: QB Tommy DeVito

Christmas Day marked the unfortunate end of the Tommy DeVito era. With his family watching at home, the rookie was benched at halftime in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor. DeVito’s final stat line was 9/16 for 55 yards, five yards rushing, no touchdowns, and no turnovers.

STUD: WR Darius Slayton

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Wide receiver Darius Slayton hauled in all three of his targets for 90 yards and one touchdown against the Eagles. His 69-yard score was the longest by the Giants all season and it pushed him over 600 yards receiving, which is the fourth time he’s gone above that mark in his career.

DUD: TE Darren Waller

Tight end Darren Waller was targeted five times on Monday afternoon but it wasn’t until midway through the fourth quarter that he finally hauled in a reception. He finished the game injured, having caught two balls for 32 yards. He also had a drop.

STUD: LB Bobby Okereke

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Linebacker Bobby Okereke wasn’t perfect against the Eagles but he’s a clear building block at middle linebacker. He finished the game with a team-leading 10 tackles (eight solo) and one pass defensed.

DUD: WR Gunner Olszewski

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Gunner Olszewski has been a stabilizing force for the Giants at punt returner but he had his worst showing of the year against the Eagles. He returned two punts for just 10 yards and had a fumble. Although he was able to recover the ball, it was a less-than-stellar showing.

STUDLY DUD: CB Adoree' Jackson

Veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson had a few impressive tackles and a notable pick-6, but there were quite a few plays we’re sure he’d like back. Ultimately, his performance was more sutdly than dudly but it was still somewhat of a mixed bag.
