Studio Babelsberg Night Celebrates Berlin Film Festival With Top Guests

Berlinale film festival

Sebastian Stan's film 'A Different Man' was showcased at the Berlin Film Festival, where notable guests like Christoph Waltz and Tom Wlaschiha, known for his role as the 'Faceless Man' in 'Game of Thrones,' attended the Studio Babelsberg Night. This event, held at Soho House Berlin, marked a celebration of the 74th edition of the festival. The party was sponsored by Mexican tequila brand Don Julio, the Motion Picture Assn., and Little Moons, with Variety as the media partner.

The gathering saw the presence of esteemed filmmakers such as Fatih Akin, Julia von Heinz, and Tom Tykwer, who have all made significant contributions to the film industry. Directors and writers like Baran bo Odar, Jantje Friese, Lars Kraume, Detlev Buck, and David Wnendt also graced the occasion. Renowned actors including Til Schweiger, Tom Schilling, Veronica Ferres, and Annabelle Wallis were among the attendees.

Studio Babelsberg, established in 1912, is one of the oldest film studios globally, boasting 21 studios, sound stages, backlots, and exterior sets spread across more than 42 acres. Over the years, it has hosted iconic films like 'Metropolis,' 'The Blue Angel,' 'The Pianist,' and 'Bridge of Spies.' Recent productions at Babelsberg include 'Asteroid City' by Wes Anderson, 'John Wick: Chapter 4,' 'The Matrix Resurrections,' and 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.'

Acquired by TPG Real Estate Partners in late 2021, Babelsberg was integrated into TPG's Cinespace Studios, a major player in the global production facility landscape with 109 stages. The Studio Babelsberg Night, now under the Cinespace Studios umbrella, marked a new chapter in the studio's rich history. Ashley Rice, president of Cinespace Studios, expressed pride in celebrating with talented filmmakers from around the world during the Berlinale.

The event was a testament to the studio's enduring legacy and its continued relevance in the ever-evolving film industry landscape.
