
About 200 third-year students of Inuyama Junior High School in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, washed their homeroom desks and chairs in the nearby Kiso River on Monday, a school tradition that dates back to 1949.
The students, who will graduate in March, wore masks and entered the river in two staggered groups to avoid crowding as part of coronavirus measures.
Rin Honma, 15, said, "I thought the water was very cold at first, but I started to enjoy myself while I washed them."
