Students to re-sit exams at Sydney school after security breach

Students at a Sydney high school will have to re-sit three HSC trial exams after one student was able to view the test papers ahead of time.

The Catholic Secondary Schools Association (CSSA), which provides HSC trial exam papers to about 480 government, Catholic and independent schools, was advised that a security breach was discovered at an unnamed high school.

The CSSA will not name the school or the exam subjects but said the "security breach" did not appear to involve staff or school procedures.

The CSSA's Jim Hanna said the breach impact affected only one class and three exams, which had already been sat.

"When that became known the school took immediate action to protect the integrity of the exam and its assessment process," Mr Hanna said.

Ryde Police were notified and students at the school were told an investigation was underway.

A male student has handed himself in to the school and police said they would not take further action.

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate an incident at Sydney's exclusive The Scots College in Bellevue Hill earlier this month.

It is alleged two physics exam papers were stolen from a cupboard during a break-in the night before the trial exam.
