Students thrilled as they open A-level and BTEC results live on Good Morning Britain

Some very happy sixth form students were left ecstatic, as they opened up their A-level and BTEC results live on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning.

Hundreds of thousands of students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are receiving their grades to help them progress on to university, work or training.

This year's results have been determined by teachers after the summer exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

GMB hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard excitedly handed over to reporter Michael Billington, as they begged him to reveal some of this year's results.

Kate and Ben confessed they were nervous ahead of the segment, not knowing if the results would be what the students were hoping for.

As Kate said: "We absolutely cannot bear this," Ben told her to stop talking before handing over to news reporter Michael.

He was at Solihull Sixth Form College with some very nervous pupils, who were ready to share their final exam results with the nation.

Michael confessed he got more anxious about the segment every year he did it, before he introduced the five students at the front of the room.

As all five opened their envelopes they were seen placing their hands over their mouths before smiling at what was written down, clearly proving they had been given the results they desired or needed.

They all looked shocked and almost tearful, while all five managed to hold it together for the live TV broadcast.

Student Keya confirmed she had been awarded three distinction stars, after studying a BTEC in business studies.

She plans to go to university and study business management and HR, and is hoping her grades will allow her to do that.

Charlie also secured triple distinction stars, and planned to study architecture at Liverpool university.

William was up next, and he shared his relief as he secured the results he wanted, calling it a massive weight off his shoulders.

Last up was Isobel, who confirmed she had been marked with three A*s, studying English Literature, History and Psychology.

It wasn't revealed what the final student had got in her results, but her expression suggested she too did very well.

Kate and Ben were quick to applaud the students, with Kate commenting: "Solihull college gets a gold star doesn't it!"

Ben joked back: "A distinction of stars! Well done to all those students."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
