Students left shaken as threat of shooting at Co Wicklow school sparks garda operation

Threats of a shooting at a secondary school sparked a garda operation which left students shaken.

Several gardai attended a school in Arklow, Co Wicklow earlier on Wednesday after someone claimed on social media they had a gun and threatened to shoot at the school.

It’s understood a message about the shooting was written on one of the bathroom walls with Thursday's date.

Gardai attended the scene and conducted several patrols around the area after the principal of the school made contact when alerted to the incident.

A source said teens at the school were left “shaken” but that the incident was now deemed a “hoax".
