Students fear pandemic will have impact for years to come

University students fear that the covid pandemic will affect them for years to come when it comes to securing placements and graduate jobs, even as the country repairs from the covid crisis, a recent survey shows.

Online university library Perlego, ‘the spotify’ for university books, reveals the concern that young people have about the lack of money to afford vital textbooks and working resources which can cost over £800 each year.

Statistics shown in the recent survey include:

  • Half of students are worried that lockdown teaching will affect them after graduation

  • A third of UK students consider another year of education to make up for lost learning

  • One third of third-year students delay entering the workplace for another year

These stats show the growing concerns over the quality of the pandemic teaching and the impact this will have on grades and future prospects which has stemmed an effect of mental health worries and issues within university students and freshers who have lost jobs or parents are now unable to help with the huge costs that come with the expected extras that are needed for all courses and studies.

Half of the students surveyed worry that lockdown uni tuition – much of which took place online at the height of the pandemic – has negatively affected their job prospects which has caused constant worry, mental health issues and lack of confidence.

The average yearly cost of university is now nearly £9,500 without the additional costs of expensive textbooks to complete exams and learn vital information for courses such as Law, Medicine and Business.

Over 60% of students surveyed by Perlego, still insist they wish to enter the job market after they graduate which means these invaluable tools and knowledge that can cost over £200 a month are still very much needed.

Perlego, is a platform that charges a monthly fee of £12 and provides thousands of the top required books and information from huge publishers which is accessible via laptop, phone and portable devices - a huge economical change to physical textbooks which cost individually more.
