Students excluded after fireworks set off inside high school just inches from pupils and staff

A number of students were excluded after fireworks were set off inches from other pupils inside their high school.

Parents were left furious after finding out about the incident which took place at Mosslands School , in Wallasey , on Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed that the the fireworks were initially set off in the playground, just inches from pupils , prompting staff to bring students inside.

More fireworks were then left off inside the toilet block at the school.

The ECHO were told that a number of students, who weren't involved in the incident, were sent home from school early but it is not yet clear why.

Head Teacher, Adrian Whiteley, confirmed on the school's website that some of the children who set off the fireworks had already been identified and excluded.

The school are also reporting the incident to Merseyside Police .

In a statement, Mr Whiteley said: "At lunchtime today, a number of fireworks were thrown in and around the school building, some of them very close to staff and pupils.

"Luckily no one was hurt.

"Some of the perpetrators have already been identified and excluded. We are continuing our investigations.

"I have made it very clear to the students, that anyone found with fireworks in their possession, will be excluded from school.

"I encourage all parents to talk to their children about the dangers of fireworks. The school will not tolerate this.

"I also stress that it is illegal for children under the age of 18, to be in possession of fireworks and I will be reporting this to the police."
