A Canberra student who police say became accustomed to lavish living because of her drug dealing operation has sobbed in court after realising she'll spend more time in jail on remand.
Hayley Louise Wood, 29, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday via audio-visual link from a remote room.
Her lawyer Tim Sharman indicated she would plead guilty to trafficking the drug GBL, as well as to one count of possessing electrical discharge devices like Tasers.
Ms Wood was set to apply for bail on Tuesday, but Mr Sharman told the court he'd advised her against it. He said they were trying to organise an appropriate place for her to live.
The 29-year-old has already made one failed attempt at getting conditional release. At the time, Magistrate James Lawton noted she'd allegedly been involved in the sale of drugs for eight or nine months.
The student's criminal charges arise from a raid late last month at her Scullin unit, where police say they observed extensive CCTV coverage and deadbolt locks on an internal door.
They said they seized more than $16,500 in cash, as well as a black Mercedes-Benz GLA45. Police documents said officers asked Ms Wood how she'd managed to afford the vehicle, but she declined to explain. Records show it was bought for $32,000 in July.
In the documents, police said Ms Wood effectively bragged about the profits she'd garnered from drug dealing in photos captioned: "I'm a dealer now made 4k profit today moving 6k of product. 10 grand deals [sic]."
They said they also found a "large amount" of crystalline substance suspected to be drugs at the unit, as well as three mobile phones, a set of scales, vials, a flask and a funnel containing suspected drug residue.
"The combination of these items, and their proximity to one another, and the location they were found contribute to the charge of trafficking in a controlled substance," the documents said.
On Tuesday, Mr Sharman said Ms Wood would likely enter formal pleas at her next court appearance on October 16. She's also been charged with an unrelated drunk driving offence, and two counts of possessing the proceeds of crime.
He said although Ms Wood faced two charges for possessing the Tasers, the plea was on the proviso he could convince the Director of Public Prosecutions to roll them into one.
