Student's Uber mistake after night out sees him rack up £1,300 fare

A student made a huge Uber blunder after a night out - being driven more than 250 miles from home and clocking up a £1,300 bill.

The man claims to have accidentally entered the wrong postcode after going drinking in Newcastle, accidentally entering a postcode in Norwich.

He says he woke up 252 miles away and facing a huge fare after falling asleep during the journey - which would have taken more than four hours.

The unlikely tale was told by the chemical engineering student, identified only as James, to student publication The Tab .

The bill for the long journey was a staggering £1,307.64.

To add to the student’s misery, he missed his morning classes the next day and was slapped with a fine after he was caught without a ticket on his train back north.

Fortunately for the student, he claims the driver “let him off” after realising his drunken mistake.

Speaking to The Tab he said: “When I woke up, I literally thought it was a dream. Surely I hadn’t done this.

“Luckily the driver understood and let me off as he worked out it was a very drunken mistake and I didn’t mean to fall asleep.

“My friends helped me by advising me to sober up and get on the next train back to Newcastle.”

Despite all of this, the student still gave the cabbie a five star rating for his troubles, The Liverpool Echo reports.
