Student's clip of parents waving goodbye as they run beside train sparks craze

A student who shared an adorable video of her parents waving goodbye as they ran alongside her train has unwittingly sparked an online craze.

Holly Owens, 20, filmed her parents waving her off from the platform at Lea Green railway station, in St Helens, Merseyside, as she returned to university.

The footage shows them waving at her as the train pulls away before they start jogging along the platform to keep up.

Her mum then stops but her dad carries on running, waving both his arms in the air as he goes.

Holly, from Liverpool, shared the clip on Twitter writing: "My parents do this every time I go back to uni lol this is my fave video EVER the cuties" and added a crying emoji at the end.

The clip was retweeted more than 13,000 times, received more than 110,000 likes and sparked several people sharing similar videos of their parents.

Meg Burnett shared a video of her dad running alongside her train, writing: "Omg so does mine!!"

In the clip he seems to be acting out setting off from a starting block in slow motion before he gradually speeds up to a sprint.

Another Twitter user also commented on Holly's clip with a video of her parents running alongside her train, writing: "Do you think all parents do it?"

And user Michaela shared footage of her loved ones waving and running by her train, writing: "So do mine."

Other people said their parents had slightly different reactions when they said their godbyes.

One wrote: "That is soooooo cute!!!!! My family would never be f***ed to run for me."

Another wrote: "My mum doesn’t even drop me at the station."

But another, in a seemingly direct message to her mum, wrote: "You need to try this instead of standing crying."

Responding to the thousands of comments on her Twitter thread Holly said that 'every video of her dad was her favourite' and said he also runs half marathons.
