Student robbed at knifepoint as drug deal goes 'horribly wrong'

Police have issued a warning after a student was robbed at knifepoint when a drug deal went 'horribly wrong'.

The incident started at the row of shops opposite Owen's Park on Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield on Saturday evening.

Officers say that a student was initially 'tempted by the lure of free drugs'.

But once they decided to go through with the transaction, the student was robbed at knifepoint by the potential 'dealer'.

The victim was not physically harmed during the incident and enquiries are currently ongoing.

In a post on the GMP Fallowfield, Withington, Levenshulme and Burnage Facebook page, police issued a 'word of warning' to those who are considering purchasing drugs.

The post read: "This is a word of warning to all out there - when deciding to purchase drugs please make sure you go into this transaction knowing that you are flirting with danger, unpredictability and as long as they have something you want and you have cash on you to buy it, you will never be in control of the situation.

"This is exactly what happened on Saturday night. The victims were tempted by the lure of free drugs initially and then once they decided to go through with the transaction, it went horribly wrong."

Police added: "Please never ever get in the car of someone you don't know also if you need to get to an ATM, or someone promises drugs at an address - there is always another option.

"I'm not about to give advice on the best way to buy drugs but if you do, please be aware that it is fraught with danger.

"Investigations are ongoing, and whilst the victim was not physically harmed in this incident, no doubt the trauma suffered will stay with them forever."

GMP are urging anyone with information on drug-dealers in their local area to get in touch.

Police can be contacted on 101, or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
