Student newspaper 'joke' starts racism row

Anything Celebrity Big Brother can do, it seems the US Ivy League university of Princeton can do too. The annual joke issue of the student newspaper included an item that has stoked up a row about racism by recalling that Jian Li, an 18-year-old Asian man, was denied admission by the university. Li, now attending Yale, said: "I think the article was extremely distasteful." Under the byline Lian Ji, the article used broken English and spouted racial stereotypes to attack the university for his rejection. A student journalist explained that the article was meant to provoke "serious thought about issues of race, fairness and diversity." Sounds like Channel 4, eh? (Via ABC News)
