Student found dead in halls of residence at Edge Hill University

A teenage girl was found dead in her bedroom at her halls of residence at Edge Hill University.

The ECHO understands the 19-year-old student suffered a medical episode yesterday.

Emergency services were called out to Edge Hill University in Ormskirk at around 6pm yesterday following reports that a student was unwell.

The 19-year-old student was found in her room. Despite the efforts of paramedics she died at the scene. Police said that the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 18.12pm on October 30, to reports of a sudden death an address on St Helen’s Road, Ormskirk. 

"Officers attended and sadly found the body of a woman inside the property.

"The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner. 

"Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this incredibly difficult time."

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed they attended the university campus at around 5.54pm yesterday.

An Edge Hill University spokesperson said to the ECHO : “We can confirm that sadly a female student passed away in residential halls on campus yesterday evening (30 October).

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family, her friends and fellow students during this difficult time.

“We are providing support, including counselling services, to students and staff.”
