Student found dead at Sunderland University accommodation

A student at the University of Sunderland has sadly died, the university has confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the Clanny House university accommodation on Peacock Street West in the city on Tuesday, November 23 following the student's death.

Northumbria Police have confirmed there was no third-party involvement.

The university offered its condolences to family and friends and said that it was supporting students affected by the death.

A spokesman for the University of Sunderland said: “Emergency services were called to university accommodation at Clanny House on Tuesday afternoon this week, following the sad death of one of our students.

"The university is working closely with all the relevant authorities and our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of this student at what is a very difficult time.

"All students affected by the death are being offered access to university wellbeing and support services."
