Student collapses at school during 'drugs-related incident involving vape pen'

A student collapsed during a drugs-related incident at an Oldham school, the Manchester Evening News understands.

Bosses at the Co-op Academy Failsworth said the child had a medical episode on Thursday (December 5).

The M.E.N. understands the incident, at the Brierley Road site, involved a substance being inhaled from a vape pen.

The student is understood to have been taken to hospital having suffered an injury sustained in the fall.

A spokesman for the school said: “Yesterday, a student suffered a medical [episode] but we are pleased that the student is now recovering.”

Earlier this year, Greater Manchester Drugs Alert panel reported they were aware of six cases involving young people being left in hospital after vaping substances labelled 'THC oil'.

The liquid is known to contain the same substances as the drug Spice.

There is no suggestion this was the drug smoked by the pupil at the Co-op Academy.

The academy, formerly Failsworth School, was taken over by the Co-op in 2017.
