Student at Nottingham College tests positive for Covid-19

A further education college in Nottingham has confirmed a student tested positive for coronvirus.

Nottingham College, which provides education and training to around 16,000 people from young to adult learners and apprentices, confirmed the news on Wednesday, September 16.

The case has been linked to the High Pavement Sixth Form campus in Nottingham city centre.

The affected student, as well as those they were in contact with, are now in self-isolation away from the college.

Remaining students who feel well are being advised to still attend while sticking to the safety measures put in place.

The confirmation makes Nottingham College the first to report a case within a further education setting in the city.

It comes as more than 20 schools across Nottinghamshire have made announcements regarding positive Covid test results since the academic year started two weeks ago.

A Nottingham College spokesperson said: “A single case of Covid-19 has been confirmed at the college’s High Pavement Sixth Form campus.

“We have taken all necessary steps to isolate this case and the student, along with a small number of others who may have come in to close contact, are isolating at home away from the college.

“We are following government guidelines and the recommendations of Public Health England in keeping the campus open.

“Students are advised to attend college, if they are well, and adhere to all the measures in place onsite to stay safe.”

It comes as more schools confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.

These include Carlton Le Willows Academy, Oaktree Primary School in Mansfield and The Minster School in Southwell.
