Student charged over Snapchat shooting threat to Lake View High School

A student was charged after allegedly posting a shooting threat to Snapchat involving Lake View High School, 4015 N. Ashland Ave.

An 18-year-old has been charged with a misdemeanor after allegedly creating a Snapchat post threatening a shooting June 5 at a North Side high school.

Jovani Cruz, of Edgewater, was charged with electronic harassment threatening two or more people, Chicago police said.

Authorities were notified at 5:37 a.m. June 5 about the threat to Lake View High School, 4015 N. Ashland, according to police.

The suspect, who is a student at the school, was arrested on school grounds, police said.

“There is no safety threat to the school and an investigation is underway,” Principal Paul J. Karafiol wrote in a letter sent to parents June 5.

Karafiol said the student’s parent has been notified and the matter “is being handled according to CPS policy.”

Cruz is due in misdemeanor court June 27.
