A geography student who went missing for more than five months has been found dead.

Adam Seaton was last seen on August 9, just days before his 20th birthday.

Merseyside Police have confirmed the body of of the young man has been found in Southport.

A red Ford Fiesta, the Edge Hill University student shared with his mother Karen, had been discovered in the car park of the town's Marshside Nature Reserve.

While appealing for information last August, Mr Seaton's family said some of his proposed studies involved the surrounding marshes.

On Friday, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that the body found in the Ribble Estuary on Friday 18th January is that of missing student Adam Seaton.

"There is nothing to suggest there is anything suspicious surrounding his death.

"The matter has now been referred to the coroner."
