Student, 20, who was tragically stabbed to death at Cork house party named locally as Cameron Blair

The Irish student who was tragically killed at a house party last night has been named locally as Cameron Blair.

The 20-year-old died after suffering a stab wound at a home in Cork city last night.

Gardai are investigating witness reports that a group of young men - who were unknown to the students living in the house - got into the property and were then asked to leave the party.

An altercation occurred, and Cameron got a stab wound to the neck. He staggered from the house, walked a few yards towards a chip-shop and then fell to the pavement.

His horrified friends immediately called an ambulance as the young men who had gate-crashed the party ran off, Cork Beo reports.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the young CIT student and he was rushed to Cork University Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Cameron had been a very keen sportsman and this morning, Bandon Athletics Club paid tribute to the young man who had competed at local and national level with them, winning medals at West Cork, County, Munster and National levels.

"He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, ” said the club, adding its deepest sympathies to his family.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the death.

Officers from Togher Garda Station have been talking to students who were at the party, to local residents and have been examining CCTV footage from nearby businesses.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who has any information to contact them.

Cameron was a 2nd year science student at the Cork Institute of Technology.

It's believed he had spent yesterday with his family at their home in West Cork before travelling up to the city to meet friends who were having a pre-drinks party at a house on the Bandon Road.
