Student, 18, gunned down in class days after note warned 'the day is coming'

An 18-year-old university student was gunned down by an unknown shooter while sitting in class just days after a chilling note warned: 'the day is coming'.

Aidee Mendoza was studying science and the humanities at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in the central Mexican capital Mexico City.

Reports said that there were 10 other students in the class when Mendoza was shot and they all claim that the gunfire did not originate in the classroom.

Some of them heard a “soft” noise before seeing the bleeding student in trouble, according to reports.

A note was reportedly found warning Mendoza of her death (CEN)

The testimony of a quiet sound makes investigators believe that the gunshot came from outside the class.

According to a forensics report, the bullet entered the young woman under her armpit, passed through her thorax and embedded in her abdomen, causing internal haemorrhaging.

The bullet will be analysed as evidence in the case.

According to local media, a note was found in the classroom several days before that read: “The day is coming, you guys cannot hide the truth."

The note also included the date of the attack, and is currently being investigated by the authorities.

Meanwhile, students have gathered outside the university to demand justice for their fallen colleague

University dean Enrique Graue called on the authorities to find and arrest the shooter.

The case is being investigated as a femicide and officers are quizzing her immediate family about the victim’s known relationships.

Mendoza’s funeral will take place in her hometown in the central state of Puebla.

No arrests have been made so far and the investigating is ongoing.
