Stuart Taylor commends side's spirit and character as Accies boss delighted with 2-1 win over Inverness

Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor commended his side's spirit and character to win with 10 men over Scottish Championship leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Goals from Lewis Smith and Andy Ryan sealed all three points for the home side who were without Reegan Mimnaugh for the majority of the match after the midfielder was sent off on 30 minutes.

Taylor was delighted to see his side's hard work pay off as they claimed all three points at the Fountain of Youth Stadium.

He said: "I'm really proud of the lads, I thought we started well. I asked them today to come out the traps right away and we did that by going 2-0 up. And then the last hour or so of the game I thought we defended impeccably well.

"I thought they were absolutely spot on in everything they done.

"If I'm going to be picky we're disappointed not to have gotten the clean sheet at the end because we deserved it. It would have been nice to have two clean sheets back to back."

A lot of plaudits were given to the Hamilton defence today but a special mention to the goalscorers was given by the manager who admitted his captain Andy Ryan is now going from strength to strength.

Taylor added: "All the hard work that the lads have been on the training pitch was taken into today so they deserved it and I'm really proud of them and I thought they were fantastic.

"I'm delighted for him to get a goal today and for Smithy to get a goal today too.

"Andy put a shift in and so did everyone when we were down to 10 men.

"It's a case of continuing doing what we're doing and we're playing the way we want to be playing, controlling it as much as we possibly can and deal with whatever comes our way.

"If we keep doing things right, more often than not we'll get the right result and I think that's what's happened today."

Speaking on the red card, the Accies boss said: "It was two bookings, there were a lot of bookings at the start of the game.

"It is what it is and we go deal with it. And I said that to the lads that 'no disappointments, go deal with whatever comes our way and stand up to it' and have that team spirit to deal with it and they did that today.

"We spoke before the game that Inverness have only conceded two goals all season and defensively they're a solid outfit.

"But we had a game plan today and the lads executed it superbly well and I'm delighted we got two goals, delighted we won the game and defend the way we defended it.

"We stuck to our task and took the challenge and showed a lot of spirit and character to go and win the game which was needed today."
