Stuart Pearce outlines his biggest Declan Rice frustration after England's win over Wales

Former West Ham United player and coach Stuart Pearce feels that Declan Rice has more to offer after his performance during England's 3-0 win over Wales in the World Cup on Tuesday night.

The West Ham captain started for the third straight game but was taken off just before the hour mark when the Three Lions were 2-0 up, with a few key players getting a brief rest ahead of Sunday's round of 16 clash against Senegal.

In the game, Rice made 44 of his 46 attempted passes but speaking out on the game, Pearce, who played 50 times for the Hammers and worked as David Moyes' assistant manager, feels that Rice was too negative at times and needs to make the most of his passing ability.

“In all honesty, I’ve half had those frustrations with him at club level, because I think he’s got so much more in his locker,” Peace told talkSPORT.

“He’s got a brilliant range of passing. When I talk about getting teams turned he is in a key position to get us turned and go forward, with diagonal passes or forward passes through the lines.

“He’s got a great range of passing, I’ve seen it first-hand for two years.”

Rice did not attempt a single long pass in the game, despite England as a team attempting 34 in the game, completing 19 of them.

In the Premier League this season, Declan Rice has completed 71 of his 88 attempted long passes at an accuracy percentage of 80.6%, the highest percentage of any player in the league to attempt 50 or more.
