Stuart McKinstry becomes latest youngster to commit long-term future to Leeds United

Leeds United have confirmed that Stuart McKinstry has signed a new contract with the club.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2023.

The 17-year-old joined the Whites from Scottish side Motherwell in 2019 has been a regular for the Academy sides at Thorp Arch since his arrival.

McKinstry made 14 appearances for the Under-18s last season, before stepping up to the Under-23s where he scored two goals in seven appearances.

McKinstry is the latest youngster to commit his future to the club and  joins fellow teammates Mateusz Bogusz, Oliver Casey, Bobby Kamwa and Alfie McCalmont in signing new deals.

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows, following McKinstry's switch to Leeds, said: "In an ideal world, we would have liked to have kept Stuart for a bit longer and integrated him into the first-team.

"Stuart is a local boy who has been brought up to be immersed in Motherwell Football Club.

“We thank him for all his efforts and endeavour whilst coming through the ranks and wish him every success in his time at Elland Road."
