Stuart Dallas has put football in proper perspective by saying the country must “sacrifice the next couple of months” to “save lives”.
Dallas and Leeds were on course to end the Elland Road club’s 16-year exile from the Premier League and they were top of the Championship before the coronavirus brought society to a stop.
The Northern Ireland defender knows football is not important right now as the nation battles to stop the spread of the virus and called on people to be more responsible.
Schools across the UK have closed and Dallas says that is not an excuse for young people to hang out together or have house parties.
“We’re reaching a critical part with this virus,” said Dallas in a video message posted on twitter.

“We need to help the NHS fight against it. I see reports of young people gathering as if it’s school holidays, it’s not.
“I see reports of them gathering and going to house parties, that’s not social distancing. It needs to stop and we need to sacrifice this next couple of months. If we do that altogether, we will save lives.”
Dallas called on young people to remember their older relatives when they feel like socialising.
“The next time you think about going to a house party or seeing a group of friends, stop and take a think,” he said.

“Look at your parents, look at your grandparents. This will effect them, if will effect you. It will effect beyond your family. So we’re asking you to please stay at home.
“Listen to the experts. The message is clear, stay at home, wash hour hands regularly and keep your distance.”
