Stuart Dallas overlooked as Leeds United fans surprised by Team of the Year selections

Leeds United's first season back as a Premier League club in 16 years has been punctuated by a throng of excellent performers.

Utility man Stuart Dallas has been one of these standouts at Elland Road, appearing in each and every Leeds fixture so far this year.

The 30-year-old Northern Irishman has played at left-back and right-back, as well as a right-sided midfielder and a No. 8 in the centre of midfield.

Throughout, Dallas has maintained a solid level of performance, rarely dipping below a seven out-of-ten most weeks.

Factoring in his longevity, versatility, this being his first campaign of Premier League football as well as the small matter of eight goals and two assists, it was a surprise to many that Dallas was omitted from Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher's Team of the Season on Sky's Monday Night Football.

The Sky Sports punditry pairing decided on their Premier League XIs for the season, but neither included Dallas in their selections.

Carragher's XI: Martinez, Coufal, Stones, Dias, Shaw, Kante, De Bruyne, Fernandes, Foden, Son, Kane.

Neville's XI: Mendy, Walker, Dias, Maguire, Shaw, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Fernandes, Rashford, Foden, Kane.

For Dallas - who will likely scoop the in-house Leeds United Player of the Season award - to have been left out of both sides appears a tad unjust.

And it seems it has not just been Leeds fans asking the question.

One Liverpool supporter tweeted in response to the Monday Night Football revelations: "Where is Stuart Dallas, Cancelo, Mount, Mahrez. Spare a thought for Grealish too. Coufal better than Dallas or Cancelo. U got to be kidding me."

Meanwhile, another said: "How does Stuart Dallas not make either of your teams? One of Leeds and the leagues stand out players of the season. Played many positions and always performed well."

Dallas has missed just 99 minutes of top flight football for Leeds United this season, whilst playing in the league's most intense outfit.

Last season, he missed a solitary fixture as Leeds were promoted from the Championship under trying circumstances.

He continues to be one of the Premier League's unsung heroes of 2020/21.
