Stuart Broad's pub The Tap & Run wins award for best casual dining experience

A pub striving to become the best gastro pub in the East Midlands has won an award for best casual dining experience.

The Tap & Run, co-owned by England and Notts cricketers Stuart Broad  and Harry Gurney, picked up the gong at Leicestershire Tourism and Hospitality awards which honoured pubs, restaurants and attractions.

Harry and his wife Avril said they were delighted but felt like imposters, adding: "We only play a small part in what is a fantastic operation at The Tap & Run. The real credit goes to every single member of the team at The Tap & Run, so this award is for them."

General manager Jack Whitehead and the team couldn't attend as they were busy serving up a sell-out tapas night at the pub.

He said: "We were of course delighted to win this award.  I would have loved to have been there in person but it fell on one of our very popular tapas nights and I wanted to make sure it went as smoothly as always.

"Maybe I'll be able to make it next year when we go to defend our crown!" he added.

Also working hard at the pub that night was head chef Paul Thacker, who said: "Since Jack and I joined in May, we have been busy trying to grow the reputation here for great food in a friendly, welcoming environment.

"Our ultimate aim is to be regarded as the best gastro pub in the East Midlands.  We feel we have built a great product here so to get judged to have done so by an independent panel is hugely gratifying."
