Southampton were the first club to agree to wage deferrals.
And Stuart Armstrong believes that shows the determination within the dressing room not just to help the club but also their local community.
Southampton ’s players signed up to a 10 per cent deferral for three months while they have also given generously to the Players Together movement set up by Premier League stars to help the NHS.
Armstrong said: “Every club is different, every club has their own needs and, as a club, it was a great decision to try to help the club, to really help the community with support.
“A lot of football clubs help their local communities. It’s a great thing for the community. It’s a chance for the players and the football club to give back. Southampton, for example, cooking meals for people in need.
“The players have really got behind it, joined a collective across the league to support the NHS and other charities.
“The Players Together is a fantastic thing, right through the Premier League, great involvement from everyone and supporting charities directly. It’s a great movement and, in the past, a lot of players have helped with things they feel strongly about.
“Players can be passionate about something, they do offer support and yet sometimes that goes under the radar. It’s another good example of supporting causes they believe in.”
Armstrong was enjoying an impressive season for the Saints before football was suspended, and the Scottish international had scored three goals in his last six Premier League games to help his side to 14th place in the table - seven points above the relegation places.
The 28-year-old has also won 18 caps for Scotland and will hope to continue his recent good spell for both club and country when football eventually returns.
