Stuart Armstrong insists Andy Robertson's Champions League success can provide boost for Scotland

Stuart Armstrong insists Andy Robertson's Champions League success has given everyone in the Scotland camp a boost.

The midfielder was thrilled to see his old Dundee United colleague lift the trophy with Liverpool on Saturday and can't wait to congratulate in him in person.

Robertson is yet to join up with his Scotland team-mates ahead of Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Cyprus as he savours Saturday's triumph over Tottenham in Madrid.

And former Celtic star Armstrong reckons it will give the whole squad a lift ahead of the two Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Southampton midfielder Armstrong said: "It's an unbelievable achievement, especially when I think back to when he first came to Dundee United as a very young boy who no-one knew much about and had a great season there. He has just gone from strength to strength

"When you see him play for Liverpool, it's the same as he played at Tannadice, and probably the same he played at five years old. He just has that natural ability.

"As a group, because he is such an important individual and a good guy, we are all so delighted for him. He should be so incredibly proud, because we all are."

Armstrong admits Robertson's achievement has given the squad a lift as they prepare for their first two games under Steve Clarke, with a trip to Belgium following Saturday's Hampden clash.

"It's great to have that accolade in amongst the squad and have that quality available to us, and the other guys in the squad, too," the former Celtic player said.

"There's a positive feeling and we are very much looking forward to the next couple of games."
