Struggling Nottingham Forest player faces three tough decisions after £4m transfer

Nottingham Forest deadline day signing Josh Bowler may face a decision when the January transfer window opens as he looks to increase his playing time.

The winger signed for Forest in a £4 million deal on deadline day and was immediately sent out on loan to sister club Olympiacos. Initially, the move went well with Bowler featuring under Carlos Corberan.

But Evangelos Marinakis’ decision to dismiss the former Huddersfield Town manager and replace him with Michel Gonzalez has not worked in Bowler’s favour. The Forest loanee is yet to play a minute under the new manager and has been left out of the squad entirely for the last two league games.

He will be hoping to get a chance when Olympiacos take on Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday night. He was an unused substitute for the reverse fixture last week, a 3-0 loss at home for Olympiacos.

A lack of game time for Olympiacos could lead to Forest taking the decision to recall the summer signing when the January transfer window opens. But there is a problem that could face Bowler as he attempts to increase his game time.

Rules mean that players can be registered to a maximum of three clubs in a season. Having featured for Blackpool before moving to the City Ground, it means that Bowler has already reached that limit.

Therefore, the only loan move the 23-year-old could make would be back to Blackpool. The winger could also have the option of either staying at Olympiacos for the remainder of the season and fighting for his place, or returning to Forest and hope to get a chance in the Premier League.

Bowler played a total of 52 times for Blackpool during his time at the club, scoring ten goals and providing a further three assists. It therefore wouldn’t be a surprise if they were willing to take him back on loan this winter.
