The January transfer window saw a number of departures at Cardiff City, with the likes of Lee Peltier and Gary Madine moving on.
Off the pitch, manager Neil Harris hinted that he was slightly aggrieved to have not made one or two more signings to bolster his squad for the remainder of the season. As it was, there proved to be more outgoings than incomings for the Bluebirds.
A mixture of permanent and loan deals have seen a fluctuation in fortunes for the ones who left.
Here’s a breakdown of how those January departures are currently faring elsewhere...
Bobby Decordova-Reid - Fulham
Though Bobby Decordova-Reid’s move to Fulham started with a loan in August, his departure from the Welsh capital was confirmed on a permanent basis in January.
The £8m fee for the forward proved to be good business for the Bluebirds as they made back a large chunk of the £10m paid for him back in 2018. His performances this season, too, have perhaps showcased why Cardiff were right to let him go.
Decordova-Reid has scored just five times and assisted once for Fulham this season and hasn’t contributed in front of goal since January 2. However, he could find himself back in the Premier League next season if third-placed Fulham capitalise on their strong form this season.
Omar Bogle - ADO Den Haag
Bogle’s departure to ADO Den Haag came as one of the more surprising pieces of business in January. He has teamed up with former Newcastle and West Brom boss Alan Pardew in the top flight of Dutch football.
However, his frustrations at Cardiff have continued in Europe. Pardew’s side are currently winless in their four matches since Bogle arrived in January.
Gary Madine - Blackpool
Madine’s time at Cardiff City was a largely frustrating one for all involved, with the striker departing for Blackpool in the January window having failed to net a single competitive goal for the Bluebrds.
He currently sits on two goals from his opening nine appearances for the Lancashire club and will be hoping to build on that as the season runs its course.
Blackpool remain mid-table with 11 games left this term and appear to have very little to play for. A large points gap of 14 separates the Tangerines from the play-off places, but Madine will be looking to end the campaign on a high.
Lee Peltier - West Brom
Peltier’s move to league leaders West Brom on deadline day in January proved to be one of the more surprising events of the transfer window.
The right-back had featured frequently for the Bluebirds and arguably provided a solid defensive base for Harris’ side.
However, since his move on January 31, Peltier is yet to feature for the Baggies. There has been no reported injury to the Englishman so there remains an element of doubt over why Slaven Bilic signed him in the first place.
Joe Day - AFC Wimbledon
The 29-year-old goalkeeper slotted straight into AFC Wimbledon’s starting line-up following his move. However, his loan club have consistently struggled this season as they currently sit 19th in League One.
Day has conceded 14 goals and kept just two clean sheets, although it has to be said that he's probably not been helped too much by his defensive colleagues.
Whilst Day will be happy to be getting game-time, he will be hoping this loan move can demonstrate his goalkeeping abilities to Harris.
Ciaron Brown - Livingston
Brown’s loan in Scotland kicked off perfectly with three wins from three against St Johnstone, Hamilton Academical and Motherwell.
The centre-half has been a key addition to the Scottish side’s defence with just nine goals conceded during his eight games at the club. A recent 2-2 draw with league leaders Celtic saw Brown come up against some of the best talent to offer in the Scottish Premier League.
If Brown can continue to impress, it could well spark questions over his long-term future, and whether it lies away from the Cardiff City Stadium. Harris may well be keeping a close eye on the 22-year old's development for the remainder of the season.
