Struggling Chievo sack manager D'Anna

ROME (Reuters) - Chievo Verona have fired coach Lorenzo D'Anna -- Serie A's first managerial head to roll this season -- two days after the last-placed team lost 3-1 to AC Milan.

Chievo -- nicknamed the 'Flying Donkeys' by their fans -- are winless and bottom of the league table with minus one point, having had three deducted in September for accounting irregularities.

The club thanked D'Anna, a former captain and youth team coach, for his services in a statement on their website (www.chievoverona.it).

D'Anna took over from the sacked Rolando Maran in April and led the side to safety with three wins in their last three games.

Italian media have tipped former Italy manager Gian Piero Ventura, sacked in November after the country failed to qualify for the World Cup, as D'Anna's likely replacement.
