Strong winds to ease but will the hot weather return? Here's the Met Office forecast

The start of the weekend brought gusts of up to 60mph to the North East - but is the weather going to get any better during the last week of August?

The good news is that the unseasonable strong winds will ease.

However we are unlikely to see temperatures rise above 20C over the coming days and there will be some rain heading our way.

According to the Met Office, Saturday will remain breezy with gusts of up to 25mph and a mixture of sunshine and showers.

Winds are then expected to ease heading into Sunday but the weather will remain unsettled.

Over the next five days, maximum temperatures will hover between 16C and 20C.

And Tuesday will bring back some gusts and heavy rain.

Here is the Met Office forecast:

Saturday :

Bright and breezy during the morning with further blustery showers. Probably becoming cloudier with a more prolonged spell of showery rain during the afternoon and evening. Brisk and often gusty winds. Maximum temperature 20C.

Saturday night:

Cloud with showers and any rain clearing away eastwards to leave a fine night for much of the region. Increasing risk of showers reaching the Pennines later. Minimum temperature 9C.

Sunday:

Sunday starting dry and bright for most before showers extend further east during the morning. Turning drier from the north and west through the afternoon and evening. Winds easing light. Maximum temperature 18C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Dry, bright start on Monday then showers arriving later. Tuesday turning wet and windy with some heavy rain likely before turning drier through Wednesday, especially later but remaining windy.
